Influence of nanostructure on the physical properties of bulk materials

Nanostructure has a strong influence on the physical properties of materials. This influence has mainly been investigated on single nanostructures (nanoparticle, nanorods, nanotubes, or thin films). Far less attention has been given to the study of bulk materials presenting a nanometric grain size. However, most technological applications require the materials to be in bulk form.

The synthesis of nanostructured bulk materials is still representing a challenge for material scientists, particularly in the case of ceramic materials. Most of our research in this field is based on the application of High-Pressure Field Assisted Sintering (HP-FAST) to the densification of nanopowders.
